Give discovery a reason to stop or narrow

Friendly conversations are not enough if no organization identifies a recurring problem or can involve the other side of the handoff. Founder capacity needs a bounded decision.

Follow the record

Set an effort limit and continuation criteria before outreach. Require relevant work, responsible roles, permission and a task worth comparing. Retain declines and missing conditions. If only revision acknowledgement matters, narrow the proposed service and test that event before adding a broader workflow.

Interpret the result

Pause a segment when existing systems already solve the problem or required integrations exceed the funded scope. Do not replace absent evidence with optimistic conversion probabilities. A justified decision not to proceed is a useful research outcome.
